Secretariat S.-G1 winner GUN SALUTE (02 c, o/o Hail Roberta, by Roberto) increased his earnings to literally just dollars shy of $800,000 with a nice third-place finish in the Buddy Diliberto Memorial H. at Fair Grounds. The track was sloppy and the weather showery and Gun Salute was unhurried throughout. Today he was back in action, making just his second career start at Churchill Downs, and continued to plow through his conditions. The son of MILITARY went to the post as the favorite in a one mile turf allowance and didn't disappoint. He broke well, sat just off the leaders, and made a three-wide move on the turn. The 2-year-old pounced on the frontrunners, then drove to the wire to win by 1 1/2 lengths. He is now undefeated in two career starts.

She was the favorite and most definitely ran like it, setting all the pace in the six furlong maiden. The closest she let a rival was two lengths two furlongs from home, but it was merely a tease before she turned on the afterburners. To sweeten the win even more, the 3-year-old filly was only making her second career start.

MISSIONS DREAM (04 c, o/o Gen Corp Purposes, by Beau Genius), a full brother to MILITARY's nice stakes winner and earner of over $230,000 BEAU DARE, broke his maiden in a one mile turf contest at Louisiana Downs. He broke from the 11 post in the maiden featuring 3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds and patiently let the frontrunners speed away. According to the official Equibase chart, he "raced under stout restraint on the outside into the far turn, quick advance, took over, drew clear, driving." He won by 3 1/2 lengths as the favorite.

He found himself in tight quarters on the first turn and had to be steadied, but quickly recovered and went three wide around the final turn. He'd taken command by the half mile marker and soon opened up a clear lead, in front by five lengths. A closer on a mission tried to run the son of MILITARY down, but he wouldn't be denied and posted a head victory.
